APRIL ADAMS 1) What motivated you to run for Hutto School Board?
I have lived in the district since before my children started school. I’ve spent more than a decade working in public higher education, so I know deeply what it takes for students to succeed after they graduate from high school.
I’m running to bring that ‘future-ready’ perspective and a career’s worth of public education advocacy to Hippo Nation — ensuring our growth is managed responsibly and our teachers have the support they deserve. I draw on my recent experience serving on the district’s bond oversight committee. I look forward to continuing and expanding my service to Hutto parents, teachers, and students.
2) What is your campaign strategy?
I have been seeking out and listening to teachers, students, and parents in the community, to explore their experiences, their needs, and identify concerns early. With my background in counseling, I listen with curiosity and seek to identify solutions collaboratively through open dialogue.
3) If elected, what changes will you bring to the table?
As a single parent, I understand the challenges many of our families face balancing and supporting their children in the district, and I seek to make sure that single parents and parents with children attending multiple Hutto schools are represented and considered with regard to decisions that impact them.
This may be especially important when zoning decisions are made, and with scheduling events such as meet-the-teacher events. As a researcher, and a public education advocate, I will vote based on what the evidence shows is best for student outcomes.
4) What can voters expect from you?
If elected, I will be accessible and responsive for the community of Hutto. As a Hutto ISD Board member, I will work cooperatively with other Board members and District leaders to make wise and responsible decisions. I will be ready and candid to explain the reasons for decisions I make.
