Hutto EDC submits $2.2 million offer for annex

HUTTO — A Williamson Countyowned annex building may soon become property of the Hutto Economic Development Corp.

The EDC recently submitted a $2.2 million offer to county authorities to purchase the Hutto Annex building, which officials said the city needs to accommodate growth.

The 9,000-squarefoot county facility is at 321 Ed Schmidt Blvd.

“The Hutto Economic Development Corp. seeks to create a community for its residents where our civic and other activities are well-accommodated and accessible,” said Caitlin Morales, EDC vice chairwoman, in a prepared statement. “Providing space for our residents to gather and connect with each other and the city will help to ensure synergy in our future endeavors together.”

The county has made no public statement on the offer.

Morales said if the EDC acquired the building, it will provide space for public meetings, community gatherings and support city functions.

It can also be used as a voting site, as well as support the public during emergencies for food distribution, shelter operations and other assistance, officials said.

“Securing this building would allow the city of Hutto and the Hutto EDC to address long-standing requests for more accessible civic space and support the continued growth of public services as the community expands,” according to an EDC statement.
