AUSTIN – The Taylor High School varsity and junior varsity cheer squads brought home a long list of awards from Universal Cheer Association Cheer Camp at the University of Texas at Austin.
Both teams earned Spirit Sticks every night of camp, while nine cheerleaders were named UCA All-American nominees. Taylor also had four UCA All-Americans: Kaylie Chavez, Elysia Moales, Ben Bachmayer and Charlize Douglas.
The Ducks earned the Day 3 Banana Award, and Zehcora Rochez was recognized as the Pin It Forward recipient.
The varsity squad finished first in the Cheer Evaluation, second in Camp Dance Evaluation and Spirit Performance, and third in the Cheer Championship.
The junior varsity team placed second in the Cheer Evaluation, Camp Dance Evaluation, Cheer Championship and Spirit Performance.
Taylor mascot Waddles, portrayed by Gunner Streit, was named an All-American mascot, won the Jump Off Championship and earned the Gold Mushy Award, UCA’s highest mascot honor.
