8 charged with online solicitation of a minor

GEORGETOWN — Eight Williamson County men, including a Hutto resident, recently landed behind bars accused of going online seeking sex with an underage child.

The defendants, who were arrested June 18 and June 19 in a multi-agency sting, are charged with online solicitation of a minor with intent to engage in sexual activity, according to a news release from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday identified the accused as Abu Kabir, 38, of Hutto and Georgetown residents Deven Carrillo, Jacob Hamilton, Kwame Obuobi and Joe Zapata; Round Rock residents Araf Nishan and Antonio Rodriguez; and Austin resident Richard Jackson.

They were booked into the Williamson County Jail with bond set for each at $100,000, according to court records.

The Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Homeland Security Investigations and the Hutto Police Department pooled their resources in the investigation, officials said.

“The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting children from online predators and will continue to work alongside local, state and federal law enforcement partners to identify, investigate and apprehend those who seek to victimize minors,” reads a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
