For the first time in its history, the Taylor Independent School District has a fine arts director.
Tara Granberry, who comes from the Jarrell Independent School District, took over the fine-arts program last week.
At Jarrell, she served in multiple leadership and instructional roles including fine-arts coordinator, performing arts center facility manager and theater director at both the high school and middle school levels, officials said.
“Fine arts programs play an important role in creating well-rounded educational experiences and strong campus cultures,” said Taylor ISD Superintendent Jennifer Garcia-Edwardsen in a prepared release. “Ms. Granberry’s passion for student opportunities and her experience growing successful programs make her an outstanding addition to the district.”
Granberry during her time in Jarrell ISD helped develop a districtwide theater program and supported performances and events across many disciplines, including band, choir, dance and visual arts.
Other duties included overseeing productions and community events at the district’s Performing Arts Center, according to officials.
In her new role, Granberry will direct fine arts programming across Taylor ISD, working with pupils, fellow educators and the community, according to administrators.
In a prepared statement, Granberry said she believes in the positive influence arts education has on students and communities.
“I’ve seen firsthand the impact the arts in our public schools can have on the community,” Granberry said. “It’s a privilege to help guide Taylor ISD as we grow and expand our arts programs.”
During the career, Granberry has directed more than 150 productions, including University Interscholastic League One-Act Play performances, musicals and summer theater camps.
In addition, her students have earned multiple regional advancements and state-level recognition in UIL Theatrical Design.
She was named Secondary Teacher of the Year for Jarrell ISD in 2022.
