A $100,000 donation to the robotics programs at Taylor High School and Legacy Early College High School will help plug students into a high-tech workforce with plenty of opportunities, officials said.
The Taylor Economic Development Corp. presented the check Aug. 21 during a ceremony at Taylor High’s career and technical education facility.
Officials said the funding allows Legacy ECHS to build on its success, having earned second place at the Texas BEST Robotics State Championship Rookie Bowl earlier this year, and will launch a competitive robotics program at Taylor High.
“This gift from the Taylor Economic Development Corp. is a tremendous investment in our students’ futures. It will directly support our robotics competition teams at Taylor High School and Legacy Early College High School, covering everything from materials and training to competition entry fees,” said Chief Academic Officer Megan Zembik of the Taylor Independent School District.
At Legacy ECHS, the funding will boost robot reliability, engineering documentation, project management and competition readiness.
At Taylor High, the donation will provide materials, equipment, safety resources and create a team of students to build a robotics program.
“This partnership helps ensure that every Taylor student has opportunities to feel engaged and connected at school while benefitting from high-quality, well-rounded educational experiences that prepare them for college, careers and future success,” EDC officials said in a statement.
Zembik said 45 students are enrolled in the Legacy Robotics program, but that number is expected to grow.
“We’re especially excited that this funding allows Legacy to launch a new drones division, giving even more students hands-on experience with the technical skills that are shaping tomorrow’s workforce,” Zembik said. “We’re grateful for the EDC’s continued partnership and belief in our students.”
