Hutto Lady Hippo varsity volleyball lost their fifth district match on Tuesday, Sept. 29, falling 3-0 to Rouse at home.
This is the second blowout the Lady Hippos have taken by Rouse in a row, with the last meeting being in 2018.
The Lady Raiders entered the match looking to defend an eightgame win streak, picking up 15 points since the start of district play.
Rouse set the tone early, taking down Hutto 25-20 in the first set. The Hippos took a dip in confidence during the second set, earning their lowest score this season at 25-13.
The Hippos rebounded score-wise in the third set but could not overtake the Lady Raiders, falling 25-18 in the final set.
Hutto has had an unsteady season, earning both a six-game win and six-game lose streak throughout the 32 games played.
This inconsistency echoes last season where the Hippos picked up 12 blowouts out of 14 victories, yet their longest streak was a five-game losing streak during tournament play.
The Hippos will look to establish an upward rhythm as they begin round two of district play against Vista Ridge on Wednesday, Oct. 2. In the district opener, Vista Ridge silenced the visiting Hutto 3-0.
Vista Ridge Lady Rangers are currently split 3-3 for district play, coming off a 3-0 victory over Round Rock Westwood.
