HUTTO — A new section of East WilCo Highway has opened, giving the Hutto area another connection to Texas130 as road construction keeps pace with growth in East Williamson County, officials said.
Area leaders and community members held a ribbon cutting Thursday morning for Segment 2, which stretches from CR 137 to CR 404 and connects with Chandler Road in Hutto.
“Williamson County continues to see immense growth, especially here in Precinct 4,” County Judge Steve Snell said. “Businesses like Samsung (Austin Semiconductor) are choosing to put their roots right here in East Williamson County. We continue to see the new homes being built at a record pace and families continuing to move to this area.”
Snell said the new highway will help address traffic congestion while connecting communities across east Williamson County.
“East WilCo Highway Segment 2 addresses the traffic needs in this area, but also connects communities in East Williamson County,” he said.
The ceremony comes on the same day that tech billionaire Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin Manufacturing LLC aerospace company announced it is locating in the area.
The new segment is part of the larger East WilCo Highway project, which will eventually connect 130 in the southern part of Williamson County to Interstate 35 in Jarrell.
For Hutto and Taylor, the project adds another piece to the county’s growing road network as development continues along the eastern side of the county, officials said.
Construction on Segment 2 began in fall 2024 and was completed months ahead of schedule.
According to a release, JMT served as the design engineer and Capital Excavation was the contractor; funding came through the 2023 voter-approved WilCo Road Bond.
The ceremony also marked the completion of the East WilCo Highway Southeast Loop Connection Project.
It adds 1.65 miles of roads and bridges, offers improved intersections at East WilCo Highway and FM 1660 and FM 3349, and features a new traffic signal with pedestrian accessibility features.
The Southeast Loop project was paid for through the 2023 WilCo Road Bond and federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
