GRANGER — The Granger High School varsity softball team won in walk-off fashion Tuesday, March 12 as the Lady Lions picked up a much-needed 3-2 district victory at home over Thrall High School.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning with the game tied at 2-2, Granger senior Payton Filla ripped a base hit to score freshman Brooklyn Gaswint for the winning run.

Lady Lions sophomore Ariana Herrera got the start in the circle as she pitched six innings with three strikeouts, while Filla pitched one inning in relief without allowing a run.

Granger’s sophomore duo of Abigail Crouch and Izzy Tavernier had two hits apiece in the victory, while Gaswint drove in the Lady Lions’ second run of the game on an RBI single.

For the visiting Tigerettes, senior Dezi Lopez knocked in both of Thrall’s runs in the top of the sixth inning. Following a single by senior Ashlyn Jarosek, Lopez hit a clutch inside-the-park home run to knot the score at 2-2.

Thrall sophomore Miley Pokorny pitched for the Tigerettes as she went 6.1 innings on 104 pitches with four strikeouts.

Granger (6-6-2) is scheduled Saturday to host Chilton High School, while Thrall (125) will also be at home against Rosebud-Lott High School.
