HUTTO — The Hutto High School varsity softball team used another strong offensive performance and pitching Tuesday, March 12 as the Lady Hippos cruised to a 9-2 win at home over Harker Heights High School for their second 6A-District 12 victory.
The Lady Hippos used a trio of three-run innings to get comfortably ahead of the visiting Lady Knights and did not look back.
Hutto sophomore Kenna Spence had a double and had two runs batted in, while freshman Makenna Castillo also had two RBI of her own.
Lady Hippos junior Makayla Martinez hit a solo home run and had a triple, junior Makenzie Klos and sophomore M’Kayla Hicks had one RBI apiece and sophomore Sophie McElyea had a team-high three hits against Harker Heights.
In the circle, senior pitcher Megan Blakeney had a solid outing for the Lady Hippos as she threw six innings, issued just two walks, had one strikeout and allowed just one run to score. Fellow Hutto senior Elizabeth Espinosa pitched the final inning in relief, allowed one unearned run and had one strikeout.
Hutto (14-9 overall, 2-1 district record), under Head Coach Matthew Mullins, will remain at home March 19 at 7 p.m. as the Lady Hippos host Copperas Cove High School.
