ROUND ROCK — One of Taylor High School’s baseball stars is set to play in a game that honors a notable season.

Senior pitcher Chris Perez will compete at the Diamond Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game Saturday, June 15 at 12 p.m. The game is at Dell Diamond Park in Round Rock, where the Round Rock Express play.

Coach Kale McQuillen said the all-star game is a great way to close out his high school career.

“I am very proud of Chris and all that he has accomplished over the years,” McQuillen said. “It is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the Diamond THSBCA game.”

Perez, who pitched 58 innings during the season, finished with a 0.36 earned run average. MaxPreps stats show that opposing teams scored 11 total runs when Perez was on the mound, but only three were earned.

The ace struck out 115 batters, while only giving up 19 walks during the season.

Perez also performed at the plate offensively, posting a 0.448 batting average, hitting 16 RBIs and leading the team with 30 hits.

“Chris is a competitor,” McQuillen said. “He gets in that certain mindset and turns the dial up. He knows how to stay locked in and focused.”

If the game works similar to previous years, Perez will play on a team filled with some of the top 2A, 3A and 4A players in the state.
