Season update: Granger Lions football

The Granger Lions varsity football team (1-2) is coming off its bye week, and here is where the team stands just three weeks into the season.

The Lions started the season with a 34-22 road loss to the Johnson City Eagles on Friday, Aug. 30. Some top players for Granger were junior quarterback Wyatt Rochner and junior running back Caleb Hobratsch.

Rochner had two rushing touchdowns, while Hobratsch accounted for 110 yards on the ground. Another notable player for the Lions was eighth-grade linebacker Lane Franke, who returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Granger also lost its second game, 33-27, at Thorndale on Friday, Sept. 6.

The Lions got their first win of the season on Friday, Sept.

13, with a 34-22 victory over Holland. Rochner continued his impressive season on the ground, rushing for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns. Hobratsch also got his fair share of touches with 71 yards and one score.

Rochner will continue to be the engine driving this Granger offense, as the Lions’ next matchup will be on the road against the Bartlett Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 27.

This will be the first district game of the season, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
