OCCUPATION: Retired Educator. I am retired from K-12 Public Education after 34 years of service. I have held the positions of Chief Operations Officer in Bastrop ISD and Boerne ISD. For the previous six years before retirement, I served as the Assistant Superintendent for Operations here in Hutto ISD.
POSITION RUNNING FOR: Mayor, city of Hutto
What is the biggest issue facing Hutto now?
Hutto, like many cities in Central Texas, is challenged with fast growth which creates stress on existing infrastructure, public safety, and quality of life. On the other hand, we have many opportunities in Hutto to partner with our stakeholders, the development community, private investment, and our neighboring communities, along with other local subdivisions such as our ISD, our ESD, and our county to work collaboratively in regional planning to address the challenges of growth, while also supporting Education and Workforce Development, Community Engagement, Economic and Growth and Sustainability that will keep our community vibrant and resilient for generations to come.
Why are you running?
Regardless of who is in the chair, the challenges will remain the same. In Hutto, we have become accustomed to leadership in City Government that is more interested in division and strife rather than building coalition and partnership. We have observed dysfunctionality in our council meetings where seemingly everyone who comes to the dais to engage in matters pertaining to the civic order and public good is met with condescension and dismissive bullying. The issue of inadequate stewardship by elected officials has been evident not only during council meetings but also through their actions on social media. We can certainly keep doing what we have been doing, and keep getting what we have been getting, or we can change the course and embrace a more productive and positive pathway. It is my desire to return the position of Mayor to its ceremonial position as laid out in our charter — to manage the agenda and council meetings with a sense of civil order and decorum and to unify our community around my vision to
