Former Taylor resident and Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested for misdemeanor battery after allegedly striking his ex-girlfriend, Olympic hurdler Alaysha Johnson, at the Le Méridien Hotel near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Dania Beach, Florida.
According to an arrest report obtained by TMZ, Dania Beach police arrived at the hotel after Johnson reported that Kerley hit her during a conditioning session ahead of the Grand Slam Track Meet in Miramar, where both were scheduled to compete over the weekend.
Kerley will no longer be competing in the event.
Johnson told deputies that she ran into Kerley at the hotel and the two began arguing. She said Kerley became aggressive and shouted, “I’m going to f--- everyone in here up,” according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies said Kerley struck Johnson in the face, causing her nose to bleed. She told authorities the two had dated for six months before breaking up in October. Officers noted her injuries were consistent with her account.
This marks Kerley’s second recent arrest. In January, Miami Beach police accused him of assaulting an officer during an incident on Jan. 2.
