Coffee with a cop
Last week, Good Strangers was filled with men and women in blue as well as local residents chatting, taking selfies, and enjoying a cup of joe. More than 30 community members, including District 2 Councilman Mitch Drummond and city staff, attended the latest edition of “Coffee with a Cop,” which was held from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Rotary Scholars recognized
Earlier this month, students from Taylor High School and Legacy Early College High School were named as Rotary Scholars by the Taylor Rotary Club. The Rotary Club of Taylor has recognized the top 10% of the community’s graduating seniors since it created the student loan fund in 1923.

Samsung Appreciates Teachers
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Samsung representatives Michele Glaze and Wesley King stopped by Taylor High School to thank the staff for all they do for students every day. Samsung provided a catered lunch for the staff, and Glaze and King presented them with a signed banner of appreciation.

Law could empower owners near Samsung
A potential new law could give some relief to property owners living in the shadow of Samsung Austin Semiconductor by allowing them to petition Taylor for removal from the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Anderson takes state meet by storm
AUSTIN – Jarvis Anderson was the lone Duck to represent Taylor High School at the UIL Class State Track and Field Meet Thursday, May 11 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. He would compete in four different events at the State Meet, giving him plenty of opportunity to show why he is one of the best in the state.

DOHA, QATAR – After having a mural in dowtown Taylor dedicated to him in Janurary, Fred Kerley left the ceremony to continue his training as his showdown with Italian sprinter Marcell Jacobs at the 2024 Olympics lurks in the distance.

City lauds incoming Korean ‘mic drop’
Taylor leaders are celebrating another major South Korean company soon to be setting up shop within city limits. At the May 11 meeting of the Taylor City Council, City Manager Brian LaBorde presented a recent trip to South Korea he participated in alongside other city and county officials, during which the city forged new relationships, including a partnership with iMarketKorea, a distributor specializing in industrial materials.

ESD 10 outlines next steps post election
After months of contention and charges of personal attacks on both sides, last weekend, voters in the eastern portion of Taylor’s extraterritorial jurisdiction approved joining the county’s service area, which means saying goodbye to the century- old Avery Pickett Volunteer Fire Department.
