Veteran educator and community advocate Lessie Givens, 100, died Aug. 21, 2026. She was born July 9, 1926, in Bryan and was the valedictorian of her high school. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in elementary education from Prairie View A&M University. Givens served as an educator for nearly 40 years.
