Seeking a few aspiring writers

Football season is upon us. On Monday, the five high school football teams in East Williamson County – Taylor, Hutto, Thrall, Granger and St. Mary’s – start practicing for the upcoming season. After four days of climate acclimating, strength and conditioning, the teams will put on the pads and begin full contact drills.

The following two weeks will feature preseason scrimmages and the regular season starts Aug. 29. This is where some of you will hopefully come in.

While Taylor Press sports editor Carter Bordwell will cover a game each week, he cannot cover all five teams each week. It would be beneficial to have one or two people step up and cover games that the Press is unable to get to.

All that is requested is for you to attend the game and take notes of what happens during the game such as big plays, turning points and, of course, touchdowns. Then, compile all of that information into four or five paragraphs to run in the Press.

You’ll have your name in the newspaper and you’ll receive some financial compensation. You might have a little fun, too.

The stringer method worked for Press area editor Jason Chlapek during his stint as a sports editor at a previous publication. He had a team of five stringers lined up to cover games that he was unable to attend, and every team in his coverage area was covered.

Anyone who is interested in this endeavor may contact Bordwell or Chlapek at carter. bordwell@granitemediapartners. com or jason. chlapek@granitemediapartners. com They may also be reached at 512-352-8535.
