HUTTO – The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity softball team cleaned up in the district awards, earning 11 total selections, including three superlative honors.
Head coach Matthew Mullins was named Coach of the Year, sophomore shortstop Kaelyn Price earned Most Valuable Player honors and junior center fielder Keyouna Harris was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Mullins guided the Lady Hippos to a nearly perfect 15-1 district record, while Price led the team in batting average and delivered several clutch moments late in games. Harris anchored the defense in center field, consistently taking away hits while also providing production at the plate.
Hutto also placed three players on the first team: seniors Kenna Spence, Sophie McElyea and McKayla Hicks. All three finished among the team leaders in batting average and onbase percentage.
The second team included sophomore ace Bailey Kelley, junior Makenna Castillo and utility player Molly Krieg. Kelley led the team in ERA, Krieg also made major contributions in the circle and Castillo added depth to an already talented lineup.
Hutto had two more players earn honorable mention honors in Kiyoko Earle and Mahailey Perez.
The Lady Hippos finished the season with a 15-1 district record and advanced to the area round of the playoffs before falling to San Antonio Clark.
Hutto enters next season with much of its core returning as the Lady Hippos look to build on an impressive season.
