HUTTO — Firefighters extinguished a blaze early Wednesday after lightning reportedly struck a residence.
Units from the Hutto and Taylor fire departments fought the conflagration at the home, located in the 500 block of Windy Reed Road, for almost an hour before bringing the flames under control.
All occupants safely left the structure and no injuries were reported.
“This incident serves as an important reminder that lightning strikes can cause house fires, sometimes hidden inside attics, walls and electrical systems,” Hutto fire officials said in a statement.
The Fire Department added, “If your home is struck by lightning, monitor for smoke or burning odors, and if needed, evacuate and call 911 immediately. Early notification gives firefighters the best opportunity to quickly locate and contain a fire before it spreads further through the home.”
According to officials, Hutto Fire Rescue responded to the structure fire about 12:50 a.m. May 27 the same night storms rolled through the area.
Hutto Ladder 1; Hutto Engines 2, 3 and 4; Hutto Squad 1, Hutto Battalion 1, Taylor Engine 3; and Williamson County Emergency Services responded to the scene.
The fire was extinguished by 1:45 a.m. and crews remained at the home to investigate the blaze, authorities said.
