$90 million renovation reaches highpoint

GEORGETOWN — The Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center expansion project celebrated a milestone Friday in a topping-out ceremony as employees signed a beam that will be raised to the center’s highest point.

The $90 million renovation of the building at 200 Wilco Way will add 48 new beds, an associated learning and exercise area, a regional courtroom focused on family services, a new dedicated control room, and a larger intake and release area, according to officials.

Existing spaces will also be reorganized to create additional visitation, counseling and administrative areas.

An anticipated completion date for the project is early 2027.

“We are all getting very excited to see the completion of the first phase of this addition coming together, and we are anticipating early 2027 for a ribbon cutting,” said Williamson County Juvenile Services Executive Director Scott Matthew in a prepared release.

“I would like to thank our (county) commissioners and the juvenile board of judges for making this addition and renovation a reality and investing in Williamson County’s youth and families,” Matthew added.

He also thanked BLGY Inc. architects and SpawGlass Contractors Inc. for their collaboration on the renovation.

In addition to addressing growth, the expansion project aims to create a facility that reduces repeat offenses by treating the juvenile offender rather than focusing on the crime, officials said.

“This center is about giving young people the support and opportunities they need to move forward while helping Williamson County serve its families for decades to come,” said Austin region SpawGlass President David Paden.
