Hutto ISD recently announced the hiring of Daniel Spencer as the Hippos’ new offensive coordinator and head powerlifting coach.
Spencer joins the program with an extensive background in football and strength training. A former wide receiver at the University of Houston, Spencer also has a previous connection with first-year Hutto head coach Casey Walraven, who coached him during his high school career.
He takes over an offense that was among the area’s most productive a season ago, averaging more than 40 points per game.
“We are excited to see him build off the offensive success that Hutto has had and take it to the next level,” Hutto Hippos Athletics said in a Facebook post announcing the hire.
Although Hutto must replace standout quarterback Kaden Stefek following his graduation this spring, the offense returns plenty of talent. The Hippos are expected to lean on standout playmakers Jaiden Fields and Dylan Owens, who combined to fuel one of the top offenses in Central Texas last season.
In addition to coordinating the offense, Spencer will lead Hutto’s powerlifting program, bringing his experience in strength and conditioning to the role.
The Hippos are scheduled to open the 2026 season at home against Harker Heights on Aug. 28.
