Hutto High School senior wide receiver Dylan Owens announced his commitment to Western Kentucky on Sunday, July 19.
Owens revealed his decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter), choosing the Hilltoppers over several other Division I programs. His offer list included UTSA, Jacksonville State, New Mexico and San Diego State.
Before arriving at Hutto, Owens spent his first two high school seasons at Elgin High School, where he played quarterback. He transferred to Hutto ahead of the 2025 season and made an immediate impact after moving to wide receiver.
The commitment comes after a breakout junior season in which Owens emerged as one of the top playmakers in Central Texas. He finished second on the Hippos in receiving with 947 yards and 11 touchdowns while also contributing on the ground with 102 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.
Owens is expected to once again be a key part of Hutto’s offense this fall alongside fellow senior wide receiver Jaiden Fields, who recently committed to Oklahoma. The duo gives the Hippos one of the state’s top receiving tandems heading into the 2026 season.
Hutto also enters the season under firstyear head coach Casey Walraven, who takes over after previously serving as the head coach at Alvarado. With Owens and Fields returning, the Hippos will look to build on last year’s offensive success as they begin a new era under Walraven.
