Flock camera contract for the birds

Taylor cancels contract

The city of Taylor announced in a press release Monday, Nov. 2 the cancellation of its Flock Safety contract.

Since 2023, Taylor maintained eight automated license plate readers on Texas 95 and 79. According to city officials, the readers were purchased with the expectation that they would help solve crime, but Taylor Police Department determined the city’s use was far less than expected.

“With the recent loss in confidence in the Flock Safety program, its discontinued use in other departments, and the lack of benefit to our community, we do not believe it is worth continuing our agreement with Flock,” Police Chief Joseph Chacon said in a release. “We may revisit the use of Automated License Plate Readers in the future should data security concerns be addressed.”

The city has already disabled its eight cameras and they will be removed in the next few days as part of the termination process.
