St. Mary’s mid-season recap

St. Mary’s Ram varsity football is halfway through its 2026 regular season, sporting a 3-3 overall record and 2-1 for district play.

The Rams are showing improvement from the 2025 season, where St. Mary’s ended 1-7 overall and 0-3 for district.

The growth could be a result of the Rams facing brand new competitors weekly, with the single returning team being the NYOS Charter Jaguars. In their previous meeting last season, St. Mary’s picked up their lone victory after taking down NYOS 91-45 at home.

Leading the roster for St. Mary’s is junior runningback Ridge Loosen, who has accumulated 120 carries for 1,229 all-purpose yards with 19 touchdowns.

Additionally, sophomore quarterback Diego Reyes has gone 6 of 11 for 98 passing yards with one touchdown.

The Rams opened the season with a 66-62 defeat at home by the McDade Bulldogs on Aug. 28, the first recorded meeting between the two teams. St. Mary’s recouped and returned the next week to dominate Varsity Opponent in a massive 52-7 home victory.

To open district play, the Rams traveled to play the Valor South Austin Falcons on Sept.

18, walking away from the inaugural meeting against the Falcons with a 40-30 victory.

The Valor Kyle Kingfishers visited and fell to St. Mary’s 64-14 before St. Mary’s rested on a bye week. The Rams could not keep the momentum going, falling on the road 86-55 to the Hill Country Knights.

St. Mary’s continued district play against the Fruitvale Bobcats at home on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
