Tigers blowout Rogers on road

The Thrall Tiger varsity football team picked up their second consecutive blowout victory on Friday, Oct. 23, defeating the hosting Rogers Eagles 21-0.

Thrall entered the meeting seeking revenge, as the Tigers hosted Rogers for the final game of the season last year and fell 55-35.

Senior quarterback Weston Smiley went 11 of 12 for 191 yards and one touchdown to go along with 9 rushing and 30 receiving yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.

Junior wide-receiver Leyton West recorded 6 receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown.

Senior running-back Ty Matthews had 18 rushing yards and 89 receiving yards with one touchdown.

The Tigers hold a 7-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0 for district, placing them at first place on district rankings. This is an improvement from last season, where Thrall finished in fifth place with a 2-8 overall record and went 0-4 for district play.

Thrall will play its final road game of the season against the Anderson-Shiro Fighting Owls on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. This will be the first recorded meeting between the two programs.

The Fighting Owls maintain a 6-2 overall record and are also undefeated at 3-0 in district. Similarly to Thrall, Anderson-Shiro will enter the meeting riding two consecutive blowout victories.
