Taylor picked apart by Wolves

The Taylor Duck varsity football team suffered a landslide 77-10 road defeat by the Davenport Wolves on Friday, Oct. 23.

This is the highest margin of loss for the Ducks since a 76-8 road defeat by LBJ Austin in 2021 closed out the regular season.

Taylor last faced Davenport in 2023, opening district play by falling to the Wolves 59-42.

Junior quarterback Johnny Guzman went 11 of 26 for 83 rushing yards and 248 passing yards. Senior running back Eric Walker II had two receptions for 103 yards and 11 carries for 54 rushing yards.

In the first quarter, Guzman completed a 75-yard pass to Walker in the endzone to score the lone Taylor touchdown. The Ducks entered halftime on a 41-10 deficit, unable to find success for the remainder of the night.

The Wolves had a relentless offense, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second and third.

Despite going scoreless in the fourth, Davenport ended the game with a steep 77-10 victory.

The Ducks currently maintain a 5-3 overall record and 2-3 for district, currently fifth place in the district rankings. There are two games left in the regular season for the Ducks to land a playoff position.

Taylor will play its final road game of the season against the Fredericksburg Billies on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Ducks last faced Fredericksburg in 2021, where the Billies walked off with a 41-16 victory.

The Billies are currently 6-2 overall and 4-1 for district, holding the third spot on district rankings and entering the game coming off a 50-32 defeat by Canyon Lake.
