With Veterans Day approaching, the U.S. House has recognized a Taylor councilman and former service member with the Congressional Veteran Commendation.

The award recognizes military service and community involvement.

Greg Redden, a former Marine, co-owner of Veteran Storage LLC and the Place 1 councilman, was honored at a commendation ceremony Oct. 28 hosted by U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions at the Taylor Independent School District Event Center, 3101 N. Main St.

try and the community that I live in? It has been and is my honor to serve,” Redden said in a social media post.

The commendation honors former service members who displayed valor or dedication during their military tenure and continue to serve in civilian life through community involvement.

Charles Throop, an Air Force veteran from Hutto, and retired U.S. Army Maj. Miles Bullard of Pflugerville also received the commendation from Sessions at the Thursday event.

City and community leaders from Taylor, Hutto and Pflugerville and family members of the honorees attended the ceremony.

Redden’s wife, Rhonda, who also serves as the Williamson County Precinct 4 justice of the peace, was on hand to support her husband.

“I’m beyond proud of Greg every day, but today even more so…He has honorably served God, country and community for the majority of his adult life and is the very embodiment of service before self,” she said in a Facebook post.

Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
