MARBLE FALLS — The Taylor Lady Ducks softball team dropped its district opener, falling 10-4 to the Marble Falls Mustangs on Wednesday, March 5. Costly mistakes plagued Taylor, as the team committed four errors.
The Lady Ducks struck first with backto- back RBI doubles from sophomore Enicia Quintanilla and junior Katelyn Oglesby to take a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Anaih Arroyo got the start in the circle and retired the Mustangs in order at the bottom of the first.
Taylor extended its lead in the second on an RBI single from sophomore Elicia Martinez, making it 3-0. Marble Falls responded with a solo home run in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Arroyo answered with a solo shot of her own, pushing the lead to 4-1. The Mustangs quickly gained momentum with backto- back solo home runs in the third to make it 4-3. Taylor went down in order in the fourth, and Marble Falls took its first lead of the game after a dropped third strike and an RBI double put the Mustangs ahead 5-4. Two more runs followed on an RBI single and an error, extending the lead to 8- 4.
Taylor had a chance to respond in the fifth, putting two runners on with two outs, but was unable to capitalize. Marble Falls tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
With the loss, Taylor fell to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in district play. The Lady Ducks will look to bounce back on Tuesday, March 11, when they travel to Salado. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
