Super turnout for Souper Bowl

City leaders mull changes to ETJ curbs
City leaders will consider changes to the Envision Taylor Comprehensive plan, but will it be enough to appease landowners in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction who say their property is being unjustly devalued? At the Feb. 23 Taylor City Council meeting, staff will introduce ordinance 2023-10 to amend some elements of its “Restricted Growth Sector,” which limits some kinds of development in the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction due to the high cost of extending and maintaining infrastructure there, city officials have said.

An ESD is a tax-supported entity created by a public vote to provide fire protection and emergency medical services in a designated area. Most volunteer fire departments, however, raise revenue through charitable donations and activities such as Bingo, and do not have a full-time paid staff.

Fire service vote moves forward
COUPLAND—Voters on the east side of Taylor’s Extraterritorial Jurisdiction will soon be deciding at the ballot box whether they want to stick with the Avery Pickett Volunteer Fire Department, the city’s volunteer group, or become a part of the county’s service area.

Hutto teen charged in fatal shooting
HUTTO – A Hutto teen charged with murder in a fatal Hutto shooting that left another person injured remained behind bars Tuesday night. Stephfon Autry, 18, is in the Williamson County Jail in lieu of posting a $500,000 bond, according to investigators.

Running the race, overcoming obstacles
Last fall, after multiple attempts in the playoffs, the Taylor Youth Ducks, a team of 10–12-year-olds, were crowned champions in the Tri-County Youth Football League Super Bowl Nov. 5.
