Tigers football to host showdown vs. Johnson City
THRALL – The Tigers varsity football team went on the road and got the job done as Thrall High School thrashed Somerville High School 42-14 in the season opener last week. Thrall has a very tall task this week as they host a very good Johnson City High School team at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for Military Appreciation Night.

Granger football looks for revenge at Thorndale
GRANGER – The Lions varsity football team scored early and very often last weekend as Granger High School opened its 2023 season at home with a 57-8 demolition of the Hubbard High School Jaguars. With Week 1 out of the way for head coach Stephen Brosch and his squad, the Lions will look to keep it going as Granger travels at 7:30 p.m.

Rams football wallops Wilco Home School
There was a lot of scoring in a short amount of time on Saturday morning as the St. Mary’s Catholic School varsity football team cruised to a dominant 56-8 victory at Taylor Memorial Field over Williamson County Home School in the sixman football opener for both teams. The Rams hosted the Falcons and got things going right away on offense as they drove down the field and scored on a short rushing touchdown by junior running back Tyler Zimmerhanzel.

Hutto football rolls into matchup at Liberty Hill
HUTTO – The Hippos varsity football team started off the 2023 season with an offensive masterpiece as Hutto High School routed San Marcos High School 66-35 at Hutto Memorial Stadium. Now this squad is ready to hit the road at 7 p.m. on Friday night as the Hippos look to keep things rolling at Liberty Hill High School.

Kerley helps Team USA win 4x100 gold
BUDAPEST – Former Taylor High School track and field standout Fred Kerley and the United States 4x100-meter relay team claimed the gold medal on Saturday at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary as Kerley, Noah Lyles, Christian Coleman and Brandon Carnes are now world champions in the event.

Tigerettes look strong at Academy
ACADEMY – Playing in their final tournament of the season, the Thrall Tigerettes (16-4) looked strong against tough competition at the Academy Tournament. The Tigerettes posted a 4-2 record in the twoday event, losing only to Class 4A schools Salado and Burnet.

Taylor cross country takes on Vista Ridge Invitational
CEDAR PARK – The Taylor High School boys and girls varsity cross country teams competed on Friday morning at the Vista Ridge Invitational meet held in Cedar Park. The Ducks had seven runners put in work in 1A-4A as the boys placed fifth out of 12 schools entered with 183 points in the meet, while the Lady Ducks also did well as the girls entered nine girls and placed eighth out of 14 schools who qualified enough runners with 218 points.

Lady Ducks volleyball takes down Granger
Taylor High School varsity volleyball had its second home match of the season on Tuesday night in front of a packed gym as the Lady Ducks hosted Granger High School and swept the Lady Lions in three straight sets: 25-23, 25-9 and 25-14 to seal the deal.

Tigerettes conquer Troy
THRALL – Tuesday night’s matchup between the Thrall Tigerettes (13-2) and Troy Trojanettes (10-6) was a battle of Top 20 teams. The Tigerettes entered the match ranked fifth in Class 2A in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, while Troy was ranked nineteenth in Class 3A.

Hippos make a splash on Freedom Night
HUTTO – The Stars and Stripes were flying high Friday night in Hutto, as was the local football team, as they defeated the San Marcos Rattlers 66-35 for their first win of the season. “We played passionate, and we played physical, now we just have to clean up some discipline and detail aspects then the sky is the limit,” Hippos head coach Will Compton said.

Lions dominate in season opener
GRANGER – The roar of the Lions could be heard all throughout Granger, as the Granger Lions looked dominant in their 57-8 win over the Hubbard Jaguars Friday night. “Tonight was something we can build on,” Lions head coach Stephen Brosch said.
