Texas House impeaches AG Paxton
The Texas House voted overwhelmingly to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton Saturday, only the third time in the state’s history that has occurred. The Austin American-Statesman and numerous news outlets reported the chamber voted 121-23 to remove Paxton, 60, from office while he awaits a trial in the Senate during a special session yet to be called.

A million reasons to wake up
This was inspired by the author Raj Aryan Purohit’s book “Million Dollar Morning: Design your Morning in a Wholesome Way.” Every day is special, and your morning plays a vital role in setting you up for success, whatever that means to you. So, why is it that we neglect our mornings rather than utilizing them? We wake up and drag through our morning tasks and activities, we worry about the upcoming day and generally not enjoy the present moment.

POW Hollis Allen Scruggs
Prisoner of War Hollis Allen Scruggs marched to Bataan along with Scotty Satterwhite in the Spring of 1942. On that march, many were clubbed or bayoneted to death and left lying on the road.

Area sports summer camps continue next week
Taylor and Hutto will each be back in action next week as the three school districts will host various sports camps for younger athletes. TAYLOR Lady Ducks basketball will host two separate camps this upcoming week that will provide individual instruction and team concepts under the Taylor girls basketball program on June 5 – 8.

Thrall Independent School District began its first week of the summer with a great turnout of roughly 120 kids from incoming second through eighth grades on May 30 – June 2 for the 2023 Summer All-Sports Camp.

Hutto ISD discusses next steps
HUTTO – The passage of the $522 million bond package May 6 was just the beginning of a long process of growth for Hutto Independent School District. Now that the funds are approved, the ISD must come up with a strategy for achieving the goals they promised the public in their bond campaign.

Kerley victorious at Rabat Diamond League showdown
RABAT, MOROCCO – Taylor’s own and 2022 World Championship winner Fred Kerley was victorious in the 100-meter dash Sunday, May 28, at the Rabat Diamond League against top competition at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Council OKs pay raise committee
Increasing compensation for City Council members may have been defeated last fall, but it is very much alive for next year’s budget cycle. At the regular meeting May 25, the Taylor City Council approved moving forward with the creation of a committee to come up with recommendations to increase compensation for the city’s elected leaders.

GRANGER – Thirtyfive seniors from Granger High School walked across the stage last week at their graduation ceremony Saturday, May 27, at the Taylor ISD Event Center, 3131 N. Main St.

LEGACY GRADUATION
Legacy Early College was the first of area schools to hold graduation. The ceremony May 19 saw 40 graduates walk the stage, 34 of which earned their associates degree from Temple College a week prior.

THRALL GRADUATES CHASE BIG DREAMS
THRALL – Friends and relatives filled Tiger Stadium May 26 to watch 50 Thrall seniors take their final steps as high school students. As the graduates walked across the stage, Principal Nicole Tindol announced where each one’s path would lead next.

GREEN AND WHITE SHALL EVER FLY
It was an unforgettable Friday night May 26 at the duck pond. Taylor High School staff member Bobbie Griffin sat at the side of the Taylor High School stadium, handing out programs to families as the proces- sional emerged from the field house and the school band began to play “Pomp and Circumstance.” Griffin sat beside a flowing sea of students dressed in green and white robes, led by teachers wearing their own black caps and gowns.
