ROUND ROCK – The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity softball team rolled past the Cedar Ridge Raiders 18-6 on Friday, April 10, at Cedar Ridge High School, completing the season sweep after previously winning 13-3 in their first meeting.

Kenna Spence led the way with a breakout performance, going 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs. Bailey Kelley earned the win in the circle, pitching three innings and allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four.

Spence got Hutto on the board early with an RBI double in the first inning, but Cedar Ridge answered with a solo home run to tie the game.

The Lady Hippos took control in the second inning, scoring five runs on two consecutive walks, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Spence to make it 6-1.

Cedar Ridge added a run on a fielding error to cut the lead to 6-2, but Hutto responded with two more runs on an RBI single from Brooklyn Moldenhour and a fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 8-2.

The Raiders tried to stay close with runs in the fourth inning, but Hutto broke the game open with a big inning. M’Kayla Hicks hit a two-run home run, and the Lady Hippos added more runs with a mix of walks and another RBI double from Spence.

Hutto capped the scoring with two more runs on an error and a fielder’s choice.

Molly Kreig closed out the game, pitching two innings and allowing two runs on three hits.

The Lady Hippos improved to 13-1 in district play and faced Vandegrift on Tuesday before preparing for a key regularseason finale against Vista Ridge on Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m. at Vista Ridge, a game that could decide the district championship.
