BARTLETT – The Granger High School track and field teams will be well represented at the area meet after a strong showing at the district competition on April 8-9 at Bartlett High School, with multiple athletes from both the boys and girls teams qualifying across a variety of events.
The Granger boys team also captured the overall district championship, capping off a dominant performance with points across nearly every event.
On the girls side, Granger qualified competitors in sprints, relays, hurdles and field events. The 4x100-meter relay team of Skyla Thorsen, Brooklyn Gaswint, Carli Cadena and Natalie Corona advanced, while Eva Ramirez qualified in the 800 meters and Kamryn Rogers moved on in both the 100 and 200.
The Lady Lions also saw success in relay events, as the 4x200 team of Thorsen, Rogers, Cadena and Casey Schaefer and the 4x400 team of Kendall Welles, Corona, Schaefer and Gaswint each secured spots at area. Gaswint added an individual qualification in the 300 hurdles.
In the field events, Alexi Montagnino qualified in both the high jump and long jump.
The boys team matched that success with a deep group of qualifiers across distance, sprint and field events. Landon Hernandez and Kye Welles advanced in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, while Caleb Tucker qualified in the 400 and 800.
Granger’s sprint relays will also be featured at the next round. The 4x100 team of Nicholas Blane, Wyatt Johle, Caleb Hobratsch and Wyatt Sanchez advanced, along with the 4x200 team of Sanchez, Noah Hobratsch, Blane and Johle. The 4x400 relay team of Tucker, Bentlee Hutson, Brodie Fudge and Nathan Romero also qualified.
Individually, Blane advanced in the 100 meters, Sanchez in the 200 and Tre Castillo in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. In the field events, Ryder Bice qualified in the discus, while Blane and Sanchez moved on in the long jump and Tucker and Hobratsch advanced in the high jump.
Granger will now look to carry that momentum into the area round as it will host the event on April 15.
