Area track and field athletes delivered strong performances across several meets on Wednesday, April 15, with competitors from Taylor, Thrall, Hutto, and Granger advancing to the regional round.
Granger hosted its meet at Granger High School, while Hutto competed at East View High School in Georgetown. Taylor traveled to Lorena, and Thrall took part in the meet at Rockdale High School.
Taylor
Taylor’s Jeremiah Caldwell led the way for the Ducks, earning a first-place finish in the long jump to secure his spot at regionals.
Thrall
Thrall athletes turned in several standout performances on both the boys and girls sides.
On the boys side, Eric Smith placed second in the high jump, while Wyatt Schroeder finished fourth in the shot put.
The Lady Tigerettes were especially strong, highlighted by Carleigh Roznovak, who captured first place in both the high jump and the 400-meter dash. Bentley Marek added a thirdplace finish in the 800meter run.
Thrall’s 4x400-meter relay team of Brynn Leschber, Bentley Marek, Kinley Hoffman, and Carleigh Roznovak placed second overall, earning a regional berth with a strong showing on the track.
Hutto
Hutto athletes also secured multiple regional qualifications with strong finishes across events.
Dylan Owens placed second in the long jump, while Shaun Grutner took first in the high jump. Wyatt Crawford delivered a solid day on the track, finishing second in both the 110meter hurdles and 300meter hurdles.
Hutto’s relay teams also advanced, with the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400-meter relay teams all qualifying for the regional meet.
Granger
Granger had an impressive showing, particularly on the boys side with multiple top finishes.
Nicholas Blane won the 100-meter dash, and Wyatt Sanchez took first in the 200-meter dash.
Caleb Tucker had a strong all-around performance, placing third in the 400-meter, second in the 800-meter, and third in the high jump. Kye Welles added a fourth-place finish in the 3200-meter run.
Tre Castillo earned second place in both the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, while Ryder Bice finished second in the discus.
Granger also placed second in both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays.
On the girls side, Brooklyn Gaswint claimed first place in the 300-meter hurdles, while Eva Ramirez finished second in the 800meter run and Kamryn Rogers placed third in the 100-meter dash.
The Lady Lions added a third-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay and capped the meet with a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.
Taylor will compete in the regional meet on Saturday, May 2 in Bullard. Thrall will head to Huntsville High School for its regional meet on May 1-2, while both Hutto and Granger will compete in their regional meets on May 1-2 at Midway High School and Texas A&MKingsville, respectively.
