The Granger Lions varsity boys’ basketball team picked up a big win on their home court against the Valley Mills Eagles. The Lions defeated the Eagles 54-50, picking up their third win of the season and gaining some momentum before resuming their district schedule.

Free tax help at library
Starting Jan. 28, the IRS will be offering their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in the Taylor Public Library Meeting Room starting on Saturday, January 28, and will continue every Saturday until April 15. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Classical music concert
The Sarofim School of Fine Arts’ Music Department of Southwestern University is proud to present a classical music concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Alma Thomas Theater., E. Rutersville Rd, in Georgetown with Brazilian guitarist Badi Assad as part of the Sarofim Music Series.

MLK Day march returns
For the first time since 2020, the city of Taylor will host a its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day march Monday, Jan. 16. The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Dickey-Givens Community Center and ends at Heritage Square where a program begins at 10 a.m. See Sunday’s paper for more details.

Lady Ducks dominating district play
The Taylor Lady Ducks have posted a very solid and respectable 3-1 record in district so far this season and with that comes players ranking in the top 10 of statistical categories. The Lady Ducks had seven players in the top 10 as far as points, assists, rebounds, steals and even blocks.

Hutto to revisit controversial park contract
HUTTO – Mayor Mike Snyder led a round of pointed questions regarding the renewal of a facility use agreement between the city and the Hutto Youth Baseball and Softball Association for the 2023 softball season. The contract was discussed during the Dec. 15 city council meeting and covers fees, field usage, concession sales and general rules and regulations.
