Mayor Brandt Rydell to pass the torch on ghost tour
With Taylor’s economic star shining so brightly, Mayor Brandt Rydell’s hands are pretty full these days, so he’s taking a popular ghost-tour that he has led for years off his plate. Rydell, who is also the vice president of the Taylor Conservation and Heritage Society, and who has spearheaded the Haunted Taylor: History, Mystery, and Murder Tour since 2016, will be handing off the responsibility to other society members for this year’s fundraiser.

Flooding prompts disaster declaration
Heavy rains through Texas last week caused flooding, particularly in the Dallas area, prompting Gov. Greg Abbott to issue a disaster declaration for 23 affected counties. Texans who were affected by the rain, which dumped more than 10 inches in Dallas, are encouraged to file insurance claims with their providers and to complete the voluntary Self Reporting Damage Survey issued by the Texas Department of Emergency Management by visiting damage.tdem.texas.gov.

Tommy Scott
Tommy Scott, age 74, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022. A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home. A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church in Taylor. Interment to follow at the Taylor City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Providence Funeral Home.

Sheryl Lynn Arbuckle Green
Sheryl Lynn Arbuckle Green passed away Aug. 25, 2022, at the age of 65. Sheryl was born Feb. 1, 1957, in Taylor, to La Verne and Ray Arbuckle, Jr. She was a daddy’s girl and when she was eight years old, her parents brought home her baby brother, Russell, whom she lovingly wanted returned to the hospital. Sheryl had a love of the outdoors and all animals from an early age. Growing up in Elgin, she could be found spending time with her horse Cactus and her dog Butchie writing stories and celebrating just about anything with her dear friends.

Community Fundraiser for Thrall VFD
Live music from Kenny Orts and the No Chance Band, food made by Thrall Country Diner, and beer will be on the menu at the Street Dance, a community fundraiser to benefit the Thrall Volunteer Fire Department, from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday Sept. 17 on Main Street in Thrall. Admission to the event is free, but there will be a silent auction as well as games for kids as well as food and drinks for sale.

Music on Main kicks off fall season Sept. 15
