HUTTO — The Hutto Hippos varsity football team is turning heads under first-year head coach Eli Reinhart, advancing to the 7-on-7 state tournament for the first time in six years.

“It’s really important for our kids to see success, and I think this was a big step in the right direction,” Reinhart said. “It just kind of shows the work they have been putting in. It can help breed a lot of confidence going forward into the summer and then carrying that momentum into the fall.”

According to Reinhart, much of Hutto’s success stems from its senior quarterback, Kaden Stefek.

“It starts with our quarterback, Kaden Stefek, who has played really well,” he said. “To have a chance at success in the 7-on-7 state qualifiers, you’re going to have to have a quarterback who is playing at a high level.”

Reinhart also praised his young receiving corps, which features a mix of talent and potential, including standout sophomore wide receiver Jaiden Fields. “Jaiden Fields has been as good as advertised and has done an amazing job for us,” he said. “But we’ve also gotten contributions from his younger brother, Carson Fields, and Brayden Childs, who’s actually an eighth grader. He’s going to be a freshman, and we’re expecting major contributions from him as well.”

One of the biggest offseason additions for Hutto was former Elgin starting quarterback Dylan Owens, who transferred into the program. Reinhart said Owens has already made a significant impact during 7-on-7 competition. “Dylan Owens has been really great,” Reinhart said. “I think his work ethic is one thing that has really stood out to me. It’s been a really good spring for him — coming in and earning every opportunity he’s had. I’m excited about the overall talent he brings, and just as excited about the kind of person he is for our program.”

The Hutto 7-on-7 team will compete in the state tournament June 27–28 in College Station.
