HOUSTON — Former Taylor High School athlete Jarvis Anderson made headlines last week by finishing first in the 400-meter hurdles at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Houston on May 15.

Anderson posted a winning time of 50.45 seconds, edging out second-place finisher Jaden Powell, who ran a 50.71. A versatile athlete for Stephen F. Austin, Anderson has competed in multiple events for the Lumberjacks, including the triple jump, 4x400meter relay, and has even taken snaps on the football team.

His performance helped Stephen F. Austin capture the team title at the Southland Conference Championships. Anderson was a standout athlete at Taylor High School, as he advanced to the state meet multiple times during his time as a Duck.

A college sophomore, Anderson was born deaf and will compete at the World Deaflympics taking place later this year.

Anderson also has his sights set on possibly competing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, according to his father, T.L. Garner.
