ROUND ROCK — The Thrall Tigers varsity baseball team is headed to the Class 3A Division II state finals after defeating Orange Grove 2-1 in a winner-take-all Game 3 on Saturday, May 31, at Northeast Sports Park in San Antonio.

The Tigers emerged victorious in the low-scoring pitchers’ duel thanks to a stellar outing from junior utility player Jack Gustafson, who tossed 6 1/3 innings and allowed just one run while striking out one. Senior utility player Maverick McAllister, who threw a complete game in Game 1, came in to record the final two outs and earn the save.

McAllister and senior Nick Treuter drove in the Tigers’ two runs, providing just enough offense to secure the series win.

Thrall will face Wall High School in the state final at Dell Diamond in Round Rock on Thursday, June 5.
