GRANGER — Granger ISD has announced the hiring of Robert Smith as its new defensive coordinator and head powerlifting coach ahead of the 2025 football season.
Smith brings seven years of coaching and teaching experience and most recently served on staff at East View High School. A graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma, Smith began his coaching career at Lake Travis and later spent time at Magnolia.
“We’re excited to welcome Robert Smith to our secondary team this fall,” Granger ISD said in a press release. “Coach Smith brings seven years of experience in teaching and coaching, and he’s ready to make an impact both in the classroom and on the field.”
Smith takes over a veteran defensive unit that helped lead the Lions to a strong 2024 campaign. Granger allowed just under 20 points per game last season and returns key defenders such as Joseph Sifuentes, Caleb Tucker and Caleb Hobratsch — each of whom ranked among the team leaders in tackles and tackles for losses.
