COLLEGE STATION — The Hutto Hippos varsity football team competed in a 7-on-7 tournament Tuesday, June 10, in College Station. The Hippos advanced to the state tournament for the first time in six years after qualifying through the state qualifiers.

The Hippos dominated pool play, going undefeated. They opened with a 27-0 victory over Hempstead before defeating Clute Brazoswood 34-0.

Hutto rounded out pool play with a 26-6 win against Houston Lamar. The Hippos then defeated Spring Westfield, 34-14, before falling to North Crowley, 34-14.

North Crowley is the former team of new Hutto head coach Eli Reinhart, who helped lead them to a state championship as its offensive coordinator and play-caller.

Junior wide receiver Jaiden Fields was the most outstanding player for the Hippos. The third-year player will enter the 202526 campaign looking to build off a successful season, having led the team with 832 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, along with multiple highlightreel, one-handed catches.

Senior quarterback Kaden Stefek was the signal-caller for the Hippos and will also have big expectations heading into next season after throwing for 2,061 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Hutto will look to build on its offseason momentum, hoping to reach the postseason for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
