Faykus promoted to lead Lady Ducks basketball program

Taylor ISD has announced the promotion of Kelsey Faykus to head coach of the Taylor High School varsity girls’ basketball team.

Faykus, a Thrall High School graduate and Taylor native, led the junior varsity team last season and now steps into the top role following the departure of former head coach Azzie Knox. Faykus played collegiate basketball at the University of the Southwest before deciding to pursue a career in coaching.

Knox accepted the same position at Temple High School after one season with the Lady Ducks.

Her hiring last offseason came after the departure of Lawrence Bailey, who left to join the coaching staff at Cedar Ridge High School. Faykus becomes the third head coach to lead the program in as many seasons.

Despite the recent turnover at the top, the Lady Ducks have maintained a strong presence on the court. The program has reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons and compiled an impressive 28-7 record in district play during that span.

Faykus will look to build on that success as she takes the reins of a team with a growing tradition of postseason appearances and competitive consistency.
