Volleyball season nears as area teams prepare for scrimmages

Volleyball season is just around the corner, with all area schools set to begin practice this week and scrimmage play the following week. Taylor High School will open practice before hosting five teams in a two-day scrimmage event on Aug. 8–9. One of those teams, Thrall, is also set to begin practice this week and will compete on the opening day of the Taylor scrimmages, Friday, Aug.

8. The Tigerettes will then travel to Mumford on Saturday, Aug. 9, to continue their preseason preparations.

Granger will also begin scrimmage play on Friday, Aug. 8, with a matchup in Cameron before heading to Mumford on Saturday, Aug. 9.

Meanwhile, the Lady Hippos of Hutto will open their scrimmage schedule at McCallum High School on Friday, Aug. 8.

The St. Mary’s Rams will open scrimmage play on Thursday, Aug. 7, on the road versus Texas Wind before traveling to Manor New Tech on Monday, Aug. 11.

Last season, Granger and Thrall both made the postseason, while Taylor, Hutto and St.

Mary’s came up short.

All area teams are expected to compete for a playoff spot this upcoming season.
