The Thrall and Granger cross country programs both turned in strong performances at their respective district meets this week, as multiple teams and runners advanced to the regional round.
Granger had an impressive showing, with both its varsity boys and varsity girls teams earning secondplace finishes to secure regional qualification.
Several Lady Lions stood out individually, including Brooklyn Gaswint, who placed fifth, Kendall Welles in sixth, Eva Ramirez in ninth, and Sienna Cortez in tenth for the girls' team.
On the boys' side, Kye Welles finished third while Landon Hernandez took ninth, helping the Lions cap off one of their most successful district meets in recent memory.
Thrall also had plenty to celebrate as the Tigerettes placed third overall to punch their ticket to the regional meet.
The JV girls' team added to the excitement by finishing second in their division. Leading the way for Thrall were Lani Birkhead, who placed seventh, Melissa Quiroz-Rodriguez in ninth, and Abigail Medero in 10th.
The Thrall girls team will compete on Monday, Oct. 20, at 8:15 a.m. at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville. The Granger girls team will run on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., followed by the boys team at 11 a.m. at Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium in Corpus Christi.
