Lady Lions defeat Mustangs in five sets

The Granger Lady Lions varsity volleyball team earned a hardfought 3-2 victory over the Mumford Mustangs in the bidistrict round of the Class 2A playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 30.

The win marked a strong postseason start for the Lady Lions, who showed resilience and composure in one of their toughest matches of the season.

Granger came out strong in the opening set, taking a 25-20 win behind steady serving and solid defense.

Mumford responded in the second set, evening the match with a 25-20 victory of its own. The Mustangs then carried that momentum into the third, dominating 25-13 to take a 2-1 lead.

With their season on the line, the Lady Lions regrouped and found their rhythm again in the fourth set.

Senior leadership and clutch plays at the net helped Granger edge out a 25-22 win to force a decisive fifth set.

Riding that energy, the Lady Lions took control early in the final frame and never looked back, closing out the match 15-9 to secure the series victory.

With the win, Granger advances to the area round of the playoffs, where they will face Shiner. The time and location of the matchup will be announced at a later date.
