The Taylor Ducks varsity boys basketball team fell 71-45 to the Bastrop Bears on Tuesday, Dec. 12, as offensive struggles limited Taylor throughout the game.
The Ducks shot just 33 percent from the field and were unable to keep pace with Bastrop’s scoring.
Taylor trailed 9-4 early in the first quarter before sophomore guard Johnny Guzman hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 9-7. Bastrop answered with an 8-2 run into the second quarter to extend its lead to 17-12, despite a 3-pointer from senior guard Kadrien Deary.
The Bears continued to pull away, building a 42-25 halftime lead and extending it to 54-31 by the end of the third quarter. Taylor struggled to find consistency on both ends of the floor as Bastrop maintained control throughout the second half.
Junior forward Landon Coulter led the Ducks with 13 points, while senior guard Braylen Rivers added 11 points on 71 percent shooting. Taylor will return to action at the Giddings Tournament on Monday, Dec. 29, following the holiday break.
