HUTTO — Two members of the Hutto Hippos varsity football team earned statewide recognition after being nominated to the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 2025 Whataburger Super Team.
Senior quarterback Kaden Stefek and senior running back Keilan Chavies were each placed on the initial ballot of 300 players from across Texas. From that group, just 40 athletes will ultimately be selected to the prestigious Super Team, which honors the top high school football players in the state.
Stefek played a pivotal role in Hutto’s offensive success during the 2024 season. The senior signal-caller threw for 3,079 yards and 37 touchdowns while adding 245 rushing yards and four additional scores on the ground. Stefek’s dual-threat ability and leadership helped guide the Hippos through one of the most successful seasons in program history.
Chavies was equally impactful in the backfield, serving as a consistent playmaker for Hutto’s offense.
The senior running back rushed for 1,152 yards and 11 touchdowns, showcasing his physical running style and vision. He also proved to be a versatile weapon in the passing game, hauling in five touchdown receptions and totaling 453 receiving yards.
The Hippos finished the season with a 9-3 overall record and went 7-1 in district play, earning a share of the district championship. The strong campaign came under first-year head coach Eli Reinhart, who helped guide the program to immediate success in his debut season.
Fan voting for the Whataburger Super Team is open through Dec. 31 and is unlimited. Supporters can cast their votes at texasfootball.
