THRALL – The Thrall Tigerettes extended their winning streak to five games with a 49-36 victory over the Rockdale Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Thrall set the tone early, using a dominant first half to pull away as it outscored Rockdale 30-8 over the opening two quarters.
The Tigerettes’ defense was especially disruptive, finishing the night with 17 steals while limiting the Tigers’ scoring opportunities and creating easy transition chances.
Seniors Nevaeh Irvin and Kinley Hoffman jump-started the game, combining for five points in the opening minutes to give Thrall a quick 7-0 lead.
Irvin capped the first quarter with a fastbreak layup, pushing the Tigerettes ahead 16-4 at the end of the period.
Thrall continued to build momentum in the second quarter. Hoffman knocked down a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 24-6, and the Tigerettes maintained defensive pressure throughout the
frame.
By halftime, Thrall had opened up a commanding 30-8 advantage.
The Tigerettes maintained control in the third quarter behind a strong defensive effort from senior center Brynn Leschber, who recorded multiple blocks in the paint.
Although both teams scored 10 points in the quarter, Thrall’s lead grew to 40-18 heading into the final period.
Rockdale found some offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter, outscoring Thrall 18-9 as the Tigerettes eased off the pace.
Despite the late surge, Thrall’s early dominance proved too much to overcome, and the Tigerettes secured the double-digit win.
With the victory, Thrall improved to 16-10 overall and 4-1 in district play. The Tigerettes’ lone district loss came against Franklin earlier in the season.
Thrall faced Little River Academy on Friday and will look for revenge in a key district matchup when it travels to Franklin for a rematch on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Franklin High School.
