Lady Ducks host Granger, Thrall in tournament play

Three area varsity softball teams competed in the Taylor Tournament over the weekend, as the Taylor Lady Ducks played host to fellow area teams Granger and Thrall.

TAYLOR

The Lady Ducks went 3-1-1 in five games, opening the tournament with a 5-5 tie against Florence before picking up a dominant 22-3 victory over Mabank. Taylor then defeated Bartlett 6-2 but fell to Rockdale 5-4.

Taylor closed the tournament with a 17-2 win over Manor. Freshman left fielder Kennedy Pleasants led the way with 11 RBIs during the five-game stretch.

Sophomore utility player Payton Burrow and Anaih Arroyo paced the Lady Ducks in the circle.

Taylor improved to 7-9-1 overall.

The Lady Ducks opened district play Tuesday against Marble Falls and will host Salado on Tuesday, March 10, at 7 p.m.

THRALL

The Thrall Tigerettes went undefeated, finishing a perfect 5-0. They opened the tournament with a 10-3 victory over Holland.

Thrall then defeated Bartlett 15-0 and Mabank 11-0 before closing out the tournament with a 10-4 win over Granger and a 12-0 victory over Bruceville-Eddy.

Senior utility player Miley Pokorny was dominant in the circle, leading the way for the Tigerettes. Freshmen Ryleigh Jensen, AJ Masters and Reese Madsen each recorded multiple RBIs during the stretch.

Thrall improved to 10-7 overall.

The Tigerettes faced Little River Academy on Tuesday and will host the Bumblebees on Friday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m.

GRANGER

The Granger Lady Lions finished the tournament 2-3, dropping their first three matchups to Florence, 12-2, Manor, 9-6, and Thrall, 10- 4.

Granger bounced back with a 13-7 win over Bruceville-Eddy and a 6-5 victory over Bastrop. Senior Abigail Crouch led the way with multiple RBIs.

Sophomore Rylinn Hamby picked up a win on the mound. Thrall fell to 2-4 on the season. The Tigerettes faced Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday and will return to action versus Bartlett on Wednesday, March 11 at 6 p.m.
