Lady Hippos dominate Mavericks, 16-4
Hutto Hippos sophomore shortstop Kaelyn Price led the team with four RBIs in a 16-4 victory over McNeil on Tuesday, March 3.

ROUND ROCK — The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity softball team picked up a dominant 16-4 victory over the McNeil Mavericks on Tuesday, March 3 at McNeil High School.

The Lady Hippos scored 14 runs in the first two innings as they dominated the Mavericks the rest of the way.

Sophomore shortstop Kaelyn Price led the team, going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.

The Lady Hippos added seven runs in the top of the first inning, scoring on a pair of errors, a hit by pitch and two RBI singles from Price and senior Sophie McElyea to make it 7-0.

Hutto followed that up with another seven-run inning as it had three straight singles from sophomore utility player Bailey Kelley, junior outfielder MaHailey Perez and Price to make it 11-0.

The final three runs of the inning came on an error, an RBI single from senior Kenna Spence and an RBI double from junior Kiyoko Earle to make it 14-0.

Kelley got the win in the circle, starting the game and pitching one inning while allowing no runs or hits with two strikeouts.

Junior pitcher Molly Kreig saw most of the action, pitching three innings and giving up one run on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Lady Hippos added two more runs in the third and fourth innings on a double play that scored a runner and an RBI single from freshman Brooklyn Moldenhour.

Hutto finished with 14 hits while allowing four for the Mavericks.

The Lady Hippos improved to 12-9-2 overall and 2-1 in district play after falling to Stony Point and defeating Round Rock prior to the matchup with McNeil.

Hutto returned to action against Round Rock Westwood on Friday and will travel to take on Manor on Tuesday, March 10, at 6 p.m.
